Special Education TeacherAs a teacher of students with a wide range of disabilities, I am thrilled to see this Social Networking opportunity for our children and families. Over the years, I have been a teacher advocating for students to ensure equity and opportunity.
Throughout my career as a teacher of students with Autism and other Developmental Disabilities, I have worked with teams of teachers, consultants, TAs and aides, administration and of course the families to build and create programs that challenge the students while bringing learning into the 21 century. Our teams' focus was is on literacy development and functional academics with a heavy emphasis on use of technology. In our district, our special education program was the first to use tablet technology and other programs, communication devices and applications to enhance learning. Additionally, we focused on developing a Social Skills Curriculum and Playdate Program in order to foster peer relationships with general education students. I have heard the same message coming from families throughout the years: I want the bar to be raised for my child; and I want my child to have friendships. My team and I worked tirelessly to provide what the community was yearning for. If you are a teacher or a parent and wish to exchange dialogue about strategies and ideas, you know where I stand, and you know My Ground. I am grateful that MyGround provides us with this opportunity to exchange our thoughts and ideas, and allows for people to connect who share similar experiences.
